Plans & Schemes The
present government under the leadership of Sri Tarun Gogoi, Hon'ble chief
minister, Assam and particularly the dynamic vision of Hon'ble transport minister, Assam the following revival steps were taken
during the last three years with most visible results.
V.R.S. scheme:
1807 employees availed voluntary retirement scheme thereby saving Rs. 80
lakhs per month.
Self Employment Scheme: (POB)
More than 1200 private buses are taken in for operation under ASTC resulting
additional earning more than Rs. 90 lakhs per month.
repairing of shut down buses
With a special one time grant from govt. Most of the shutdown buses were
repaired. Along with 34 new buses purchased the fleet increased to about 280
from 70 buses.
Passengers' incentive: scratch card
ASTC ticket purchased from stations for Rs 75 or more, accompanies a scratch
card with discount on the next journey. Lucky passengers may get gifts like
tvs and cars.
Due to these marketing strategies the earning of the corporation increased
substantialy.
New luxury buses:
New executive class of services and a/c coaches, with state of the art
luxury buses, introduced with better amenities to the passengers. These
measures not only attracted more passengers but also made ASTC the leader
among all operators on the road. ASTC also introduced A.C. class and VOLVO
buses under its banner.
Extra revenue: advertisement
Through advertisements on bus bodies, hoardings and glow signboards ASTC
generated increased revenue.
Cargo and courier service
Cargo and courier services with collaboration of private firms.
Operation of 26 nos. Of low floor Rhino buses :
On Guwahati city twelve low floor Rhino buses were introduced in guwahati w.e.f.
1/1/2004. Another 14 nos. were added in 2005. The low
floor buses changed the mass transit scenario of the Guwahati city and ASTC
gained unprecedented goodwill from the public. ASTC is planning to introduce
more Rhino buses in Guwahati city.
With the revival measures ASTC now in a position to run its own or private
operated buses under ASTC to all places in Assam and also to different
places of the neighboring states. Disbursement of regular salaries resulted
confidence and work culture to the employees. ASTC also reducing the old
statutory liabilities especially to the retired employees.
ASTC has also generated indirect employment for more than 8000 unemployed
youths through the different self employment schemes as mentioned.
